How did my life get so broken? It’s a question Lacey St. James asks herself every day. Stuck raising her little brother in a trailer park while she works a dead end job at a grocery store, she has a stalker exboyfriend, a bad reputation, and no way out.
And then, she meets Everett, who changes her entire existence.
Everett is an outsider who’s housesitting his family’s mansion off the coast, and for reasons Lacey can’t understand, he’s completely transfixed by her. He seems determined to show her that life can offer more than she’d ever hoped for, if only she believes in herself. She desperately yearns to trust him, but what happens when she finds out that everything he’s told her is a lie?

MY THOUGHTS

Lacey is 19. She's living in a trailer park in southern Mississippi with her mean grandma, her drunk mother and her adorable 4 year old brother Davy.

They had to move in with her grandmother after her stepdad died and they had to leave Oregon.
Lacey quit high school halfway through her last year and now she's juggling 2 jobs.
As often as possible she tries to not sleep at home. She tries to find guys to spend as much time with as possible. That's how she met her boyfriend Macon. Her stalker-ish, abusive idiot of a boyfriend. After he went way too far behind a bar one night, she's not answering his calls anymore.

On that same night, in the same bar, she met Everett.

Everett Ward is spending the summer in his friend's Trent's hometown - housesitting a huge mansion for some rich people.

Lacey is immediately attracted to Everett, but she wants to start a new chapter in her life. She can't just trust the next guy who seems interested in her.
Everett seems like a really nice guy. But Lacey has learned that there is no such thing as a nice boy!

"Regardless of what my heart wanted to believe, experience told me I couldn't trust him."

Even though she really wants to trust him.

"Everett was little more than a stranger, but I desperately wanted to trust him and that scared me."

But Everett won't go away ☺ and Lacey finally breaks down and texts him. After a while of texting he agrees to tutor her, because she wants to study for her GED.

They spend a lot of time together - and Lacey even moves into Everett's guest house, because her family is making trouble again.

But everything is not as perfect as it could be.
There's still her ex Macon, who threatens her and spreads rumors .....
She loses one of her jobs, but she finds a much better one...
And Everett.... he just seems to good to be true....

Could he really be all he seems? The perfect boy - offering her the start to the new life she so desperately wants??

I'm not telling you what will happen of course ☺ it would totally spoil your reading pleasure ;)

I REALLY LOVED THE BOOK!
BUT....

There were lots of BUTs for me here ☺

But first, let me tell you that I really enjoyed reading it.
This book is a really nice New Adult Romance
 - not much sex, but it was ok... I just expected more of everything :(

I loved the cover and I loved the synopsis and I really thought I could fall in love with the story and with Everett and Lacey - BUT ☺

It starts really interesting - the poor girl with the horrible boyfriend & grandmother - trailer park - 2 jobs - taking care of her little brother - new guy comes into town ☺☺☺

BUT - it takes her FOREVER to halfway trust Everett - it's a wonder the guy didn't give up on her ☺
and then there isn't anything happening between them in the first half of the book.
I wanted them to be together sooner - the wait was just too long.

Lacey has this dream of finally getting out of this stupid little town - and we think - yep - Everett will get her out of there - they can take her little brother with them and they can all live happily ever after. That would've been my idea for the perfect HEA in this book.
The book does have a HEA - BUT it just felt meh! I can't say too much without spoiling - but you'll know what I mean!

What I liked was that towards the end we get to hear Everett's POV - but it was just too little to late for me - why do it towards the end?? Either write the whole book in both their POVs or just let Lacey do all the talking.
I just couldn't fall in love with Everett the way I wanted to - the way I have to fall in love with all my male heroes in all my Romances. He was cute and nice and all, but just not enough.

Lacey was ok - but she was just too much. Too much the poor girl from the trailer park. I don't want to say it was all her fault. But why does she have to go out and drink and party so much - and in high school too. Just stay at home and study if you want to get out of that shitty town!!!!
She was just too much the victim in this book. She could've changed sooo many things about her life, but didn't do anything about it until Everett showed up - and even then ....hm.

Then the word BOY - Sara uses that word way too much - I kind of felt a little pedophile-ish - like Everett was only 12 or something like that. Lacey always says the boy and it sounds really weird - maybe it's a southern thing - but it was weird.

Ok - I don't want to complain too much - I already said enough bad things - and that's not fair, because it really wasn't a bad story - but I just had the feeling that Sara wrote this whole book in one day - after reading Fifty Shades & Abbi Glines's Rosemary Beach series (because really? Too many similarities!!) - but it just didn't turn out the way it could've. Maybe she could try again and change a few things...

Sorry for sounding so negative - that isn't really fair - and I really don't want to sound mean about it :(

This really is a nice New Adult Romance - I enjoyed reading it.
I even cried a few times!

It wasn't all bad ☺
please don't let me stop you from reading it!!!!!
Make up your own mind!!!

GO AND BUY IT!!!!!

SARA FAWKES:

Sara Fawkes has always loved spinning tales but her romantic roots come from sneaking her mother's old Johanna Lindsay books from the dresser drawer. One who's been writing since she was a little girl (and has the home made books from preschool to prove it), she loves creating stories and characters and interesting messes for them to get into... and for the handsome guy to get the girl in the end. An avid traveler and adventure motorcyclist, her dream job includes selling everything off and leaving civilization to see the world on two wheels, writing in cafes in each country she visits, and living off her writing. In the meantime however, she lives in California with her menagerie of pets and, when not writing, loves to rebuild old motorcycles/cars and practice her fiddle.
