Stumbling through her bleak circumstances, Grace relives the past year and thinks of all that has happened between Octobers.

The taste of victory is sweet, though I do feel a little guilty about the method. He has to realize winning is entirely dependent upon dexterity and not the highest tolerance.

Ill tell you a little secret. I lean over and whisper, Im almost sorry.
A strong hand presses on the back of my head. His lips make several landings along the side of my neck before I react. What are you doing? The stupid question is barely out of my mouth before its muffled by his.

Despite the sudden nature of the exploit, his touch is gentle. Bursting heat courses through me as I push against him. His hand disappears from behind my back and resurfaces beneath my shirt. I gasp and leap away. He seems quite pleased with himself. Of course, he has just polished off a pint of whisky, so he has an excuse. I make for the door as quickly as I can.

I wanted to do that since I saw you at the bar.

Good night, Evan. Lily is babbling about something on the news as I sit down beside her, taking in my surprise. Not at what transpired, because that was totally my fault, but the way I feel about it. Ive been readily convinced that this part of my life was over. No more butterflies for me. No longing glances from devoted eyes, or cold nights spent curled up with someone to keep my feet warm. Im alone and ready to deal with it. Ive only come this far because of the parameters of my carefully prepared routines. Then he hits me with this curve ball! That kiss . . . oh, that kiss. It wasnt like the other and I cant ignore it. I should be angry. He has no right to touch me like that. I want to be mad. Maybe I would be if he hadnt felt so good. What is he doing to me? I coax the hairs on my arms down with my fingers, thinking of his touch, his beautiful, full lips.

Evan kissed me.

The first time, Evan and I agreed it was a mistake. It wasn
t going to happen again.

Some years ago, she read a little book by a lady with the surname of Meyer. Then she read the next three. In the process, she fell back in love with reading and it sparked a passion in her she never knew she had.
Today, she spends every minute she can with her sons and husband, sharing an abiding faith and love with them as she nurtures her soul with writing.
