Lauren Laynes New Adult novel tells the story of a girl with secrets, a guy with scars, and a love that could save them both... or destroy them.

When Olivia Middleton abandons the glamour of Park Avenue for a remote, coastal town in Maine, everyone assumes she
s being the kind do-gooder shes always been. But Olivia has a secret: helping an injured war veteran reenter society isnt about charityits about penance. Only, Olivias client isnt the grateful elderly man shes expecting. Instead, hes a brooding twenty-four-year-old who has no intention of being Olivias path to redemption . . . and whose smoldering gaze and forbidden touch might be her undoing.

Paul Langdon doesn
t need a mirror to show him hes no longer the hotshot quarterback he was before the war. He knows hes uglyinside and out. Hell do anything to stay in self-imposed exile, even accept his fathers ultimatum that Paul tolerate the newest caretaker for three months or lose his inheritance. But Paul doesnt count on the beautiful twenty-two-year-old who makes him long for things that he can never have. And the more she slips past his defenses, the more keeping his distance is impossible.

Now Paul and Olivia have to decide: Will they help each other heal?
Or are they forever broken?

We already met Olivia in ISN'T SHE LOVELY - she was Ethan's girlfriend, but there was also Michael, then everything went totally wrong and now Ethan is happy with Stephanie...and Olivia feels horrible.

Olivia has to leave New York or she'll go insane.
She needs to do something worthwile - to atone for her wrong-doings in the Ethan-Stephanie-Michael situations.

She wanted to go really far away, like South America, to build houses for the poor, or something equally do-goodish like that, but her parents interefered and got her a care-taker job in Maine.
She has to go up there and take care of an injured war veteran.

But she doesn't find the nice older gentleman that she was expecting up north. Nope.

Paul Langdon is a ridiculously gorgeous 24-year old guy.

I haven't even seen the guy in full light yet and I'm about fifteen seconds away from asking if his offspring would like to take up residence in my uterus.

But Afghanistan left him with a bad leg and a scarred face.

That's why he lives like her hermit in his Dad's house in Bar Harbor.
(a nine-bedroom château with two guest houses, a gym and a stable!)
But his Dad doesn't want him to waste his life like this anymore. He's afraid that Paul might even want to end his life.
He wants his son to start living again.
That's why he issues an ultimatum.
Do NOT scare away the next (aka 345th) caretaker he'll send, for three whole months.
OR - he'll be out on his own with no money!
But Paul needs the money - not for himself - the only thing he buys for himself are his precious books - but he needs the money for the family of a fallen comrade.

Paul thinks he doesn't have anything to live for.
His one and only true passion - running - might never be possible again.

And girls? They would take one look at his face and run away screaming. And that's only if he would ever venture out into the world again, where he could actually meet girls.

But now a beautiful girl has been hired to keep him company....how can he live in the same house with this gorgeous blonde girl and not go insane with lust - after years of no female contact???

Will Olivia be able to draw Paul out of his depressed existence?

WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO OLIVIA & PAUL?
WILL THE TWO OF THEM GET THEIR HEA???
WILL EVERYBODY DIE AT THE END?
WILL THERE BE A HORRIBLE CLIFFHANGER?

I'm not telling you that of course ☺
Ok - no Cliffhanger - and the HEA-chances are very good!

I was a bit skeptic at first - this whole story sounds exactly like Jojo Moyes'
ME BEFORE YOU: young girl having to take care of a - in Jojo's case - wheelchair-bound guy. And I really hoped that BROKEN wouldn't require the use of 4 boxes of tissues like Me Before You did ☺
I can't tell you if I needed those tissues of course - that would spoil too much.
Well - ok - there were some teary moments here too. ☺

I really loved BROKEN!

It was such a sweet and funny...

... because I have a serious lady boner for the guy I'm supposed to work for.

and cute and adorable and moving and sad and sexy Romance ☺

The poor hurt war hero with all his guilt and grieve and sadness.
And the sweet rich girl from the big city with the need to atone for her sins.

It was such a sweet novel.

And it was pretty sexy too - there wasn't really that much sex in it - but still some very sexy moments!!
There are constant sparks in the air when they're both in the same room!

BROKEN was an amazing Romance with two broken people who are trying to find meaning in their life again.

I could really imagine this book as a movie - set in a beauitful coastal town in Maine  ... yup - someone please do that! ☺

Lauren Layne is a snarky smartass with a serious weakness for happily ever afters.

Marrying her high school sweetheart was a good start. *cue Disney soundtrack.*

But Lauren wanted all romance, all the time.

Now she writes fictional happy endings, and considers her job done well if you swoon while reading her books.

Don't worry. You will.

Once upon a time she lived in a Manhattan high-rise, but now she's on the laid-back train in the Seattle area. If you ever find yourself in Issaquah, she'll probably buy you a drink. Maybe.
