ARC received for an honest review

It has been a while since I read a Savannah Stewart book, and Graceful Ashes was a great book to get back to her with.

You know that saying "if you love someone set them free, if they come back it was meant to be."

That could pretty much be Zoey and Hendrix's story.

Zoey has been quite sheltered, and her life revolves around dance.

Hendrix is the bad boy ,surrounded by darkness that piques her interest and turns her world upside down.

Their story is definitely not all hearts and flowers.

While I was cheering for Zoey for finally stepping out of her comfort zone, for finding new friends and tackling new experiences, I just wanted to slap some sense into her.  She fell so far down the rabbit hole I had to wonder if she would ever come back.

Decisions made by both Zoey and Hendrix, while at times questionable, were also understandable.  Such hurt in their pasts was always going to affect them, and it was a journey to find out if/how they would come through the other side.

While at times my heart broke for our lovelies, it was also filled with hope that they would find what they needed to move forward.

Ms Stewart drew me into the whirlwind that was Zoey and Hendrix's life and I just couldn't stop reading until I knew what happened.  The story flowed well, I was invested in the characters, and just had to know what happened next.

I look forward to seeing what Ms Stewart brings us next.

EXCERPT

I barely heard the sound of his deep inhale as I focused on his lips. Perfectly, kissable lips. My heart beat wildly within my chest as my gaze shifted back to his. His navygrey eyes conveyed a message I was powerless to resist.

He stepped closer and covered my mouth with his.  My lips parted in surprise. He exhaled and instinctively, I inhaled.

I jerked away as the smoke raced down my throat. My lungs burned as the smoke hit them forcing a round of heavy coughs.

He patted me on the back. You okay?

His eyes were mere inches from mine.

I nodded and covered my mouth until I caught my breath enough to huff,

Why...did...you...do...that?

You didnt tell me not to. He smirked.

You didnt even ask! I sucked a clean breath of air into my lungs and felt the effects of the marijuana coursing through me. I backed up a step. II cant believe you did that, I whispered then turned and took off toward my apartment.

Im sorry!

My nerves spiked as I heard the sounds of his footsteps following me. Not wanting him to know which apartment was mine, I stopped well before I reached my door and turned. Why are you following me? A giggle rolled up my throat. Maybe from the marijuana?

I didnt mean to upset you. His thick dark eyebrows pulled deep in the center as he ran a hand through his hair. I thought it would help you chill out a bit. You seemed on edge.

You dont think a complete stranger kissing me wouldnt upset me? I dont even know your name for Christs sake! My mouth was as dry as a desert and my yell croaked like a big fat bullfrog.

Hendrix. He smiled.

What? I breathed.

Hendrix. Thats my name.

Like Jimi Hendrix? I laughed without being able to stop myself.

Yep.

Well, thats pretty fitting.

Stereotype much? He crossed his arms over his chest.

If the shoe fits... Another round of laughter passed my lips.

Hendrix let out his own round of laughter. Touché.
